The Internet Running Slow

This problem and is often related to network flooding. If you have ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) for your internet connection it is very likely that large amounts of data is being downloaded or uploaded.
 
Related Issues
  •          The main cause of traffic flooding over the internet is email, either inbound or outbound. Check with staff to see if anyone is sending large emails or expecting a large email. If this is the problem, it will resolve itself in time.
  •         Downloads from websites will also cause the internet to run slow. Check with staff to see if anyone is downloading large files. If this is the problem, it will resolve itself in time.
  •          A virus/bug on a single PC can generate large amounts of traffic on the internet. Although harder to find, generally a user may suspect that their machine maybe infected. Check with staff to see if anyone is suspects a virus attack.
  •          Hardware issues are another cause of internet performance problems. It is possible that your internet equipment can be causing data loss or corruption over the internet. These problems are somewhat harder to diagnose and will require our support staff to assist with indentifying and resolving this.
 
The first course of action is to shut the power off your internet equipment for at least 5 minutes and then monitor its speed and reliability directly after powering up
If all else fails call our helpdesk to investigate further, let them know which of the above you have tried.
